They say “It takes a community to raise a child”... I say it takes a community to strengthen a person, a marriage, and a family.

What I can help with

While I aspire to offer you the best support I can, I value you as being ‘the expert’ in your own life. This means that counselling will involve some focused work and dedication on your part in order to achieve the results you want. It can be a relief to know, however, that you don’t have to walk the journey alone.

By clarifying what is most important to you, we will work together in fashioning the steps required to reach most of what you seek. The amount of favorable change experienced will vary from person to person, yet most people feel satisfied and ready to leave therapy within 8-12 sessions.

To see whether my services might be the right fit for you, it may be helpful to know that I offer general counselling support for a variety of needs, as well as more focused support for the following life experiences:

  • Honouring your spiritual self and rightful need to grieve, I seek to guide you in reclaiming your wellness while transcending the often de-stabilizing effects of loss.

Whether it’s the physical loss of a loved one or the loss of an important part of your self, therapy works to reassemble the pieces often fragmented by loss. Knowing that the journey through grief is unique for each person and their family, in your own time and in your own way, I will support you to honor what was, accept what is, and embrace what is yet to be.

  • Sadness is a part of our human experience.

While getting a little ‘low’ from time-to-time may help us to reflect on life major depression comes in when we feel too low for too much of the time. This kind of depression interferes with how we get through the day, how we care for ourselves, and how we relate to others.

In therapy, we will look at all aspects of daily living that can help you to lift the cloud of deep depression and build a roadmap back to feeling better and like yourself again.

  • Feeling anxious is a normal part of our human experience. In fact, getting a little revved up can help us leave situations that don't serve us, while allowing us to still complete tasks that are important to us.

Anxiety becomes an obstacle when our bodies get activated too quickly, too often and too intensely to warrant the stressors we face.

This is where therapy can help to lower the noise in your mind and calm the energy in your body so that you may respond to stress effectively and in a way that is most serving of you and your relationships.

  • It’s all right to feel angry sometimes. Anger often signals to us that an important boundary has been crossed that we may wish to make clear to others

Anger becomes a concern, however, when our bodies get activated too quickly, too often and too intensely – the outcomes of which may lead to harming ourselves or others.

Therapy can then help to slow down the rush of anger so that you can respond in a way that is more serving of you and your relationships. In this way, no one gets hurt and you can say what you need to say in a way that others will want to listen.

By exploring what might be underneath the anger, I will support you in connecting with the person you most aspire to be.

  • I enjoy working with people of all backgrounds and diversities. While I believe that our experiences unite us more than they divide us, I look to the uniqueness within each person’s living story. As such, I remain keenly attuned to concerns of race, ethnicity, religion, age, gender, disability and sexual orientation or identity. Everyone has a welcome place within this healing space.

Additional areas that we may focus on in our sessions could include:

  • Life, health and wellness coaching

  • Personal growth and enhancement

  • Spiritual awareness and guidance (all beliefs welcome)

  • Professional burnout and other work-related issues

  • Recovery and rehabilitation (from stress-related conditions)

  • Chronic pain and terminal illness (living and being well with the pain or illness)

  • Caregiver stress and compassion fatigue (e.g. child and elder care)

  • Post-partum depression

  • Post-traumatic stress conditions

  • Love, intimacy and communication

  • Pre-marital counselling

  • Relationship and dating concerns

  • Co-parenting challenges and concerns specific to mixed or blended families

If one or more of these seem to fit with your story, take the next easy step and contact me to inquire further.

If you have a concern that is not listed on this page, please don’t hesitate to connect with me – I am here to listen and offer meaningful support. If I feel I cannot best support what you need, I will recommend someone who can.
